Arbore mic, cu ramuri atârnate și o coroană largă, în formă de pâlnie, care atinge 6 - 8 m. Frunzele verzi, ovoidale până la ovoidale alungite, sunt ascuțite și lungi de 6 - 12 cm. Marginea frunzei este zimțată, culoarea de toamnă (portocalie)galbenă până la roșie. 'Accolade' este un cultivar cu înflorire timpurie, cu flori în ciorchini pendulanți. Din mugurii florali roz, în aprilie apar flori semidouble de aproximativ 4 cm, de culoare roz deschis. Se folosește ca arbore de parc, solitar și pentru plantarea în centuri verzi largi. Preferă solurile cu o bună capacitate de reținere a umidității. Preferă un loc ușor însorit. Rezistența la vânt este rezonabilă, dar nu tolerează vântul de mare. Zona de rezistență: 6a
