Un copac selectat de NAKB (acum Naktuinbouw) de pe un bulevard vechi de 40 de ani. Se deosebește de specie prin creșterea ovală relativ îngustă. Caracteristic este scoarța exfoliantă cu un fond verde deschis până la verde-gălbui și părți detașate de culoare verde-cenușie, verde-închis până la maro. Frunza lată are 3 - 5 lobi dințioși ascuțiți și este ușor păroasă pe partea inferioară. Toamna devine galben-maronie. Frunzele căzute se descompun greu. Inflorescențele globuloase atârnă în perechi (1 - 3) pe tulpini lungi, pe care apar și fructele spinoase. Aceștia rămân pe copac până bine în timpul iernii. Platanul tolerează extrem de bine pavajul, dar rădăcinile puțin adânci pot împinge în sus pavajul. Tolerează tăierea, chiar și în lemnul bătrân. Plantațiile tinere necesită un stâlp pentru arbori. Ramurile tinere sunt predispuse la rupere.
