Arbust de mari dimensiuni, care adesea se transformă într-un copac de înălțime medie, caracteristic. Coroana densă este formată dintr-un trunchi scurt, noduroasă și strâmbă, cu un obicei de ramificare neregulată. Crenguțele tinere trec de la verde măsliniu la maro. Scoarța este aspră și canelată.
