Arbust mare, cu mai multe tulpini sau copac mic pe tulpină. Crește încet și are o coroană deschisă în formă de ou. Înălțime 4 - 6 (8) m. Tulpina și ramurile nu au spițe, cu condiția să fie altoite pe G. triacanthos f. inermis. Frunzele compuse au o textură mai fină și sunt mai elegante decât la specie. Frunzele individuale sunt de un verde mai închis și mai mici decât la specie, de aproximativ 2 cm. După înflorire, apar păstăile de până la 45 cm lungime, în formă de seceră. Acestea trec de la galben-verde la roșu-maroniu și persistă până în timpul iernii. Are un sistem radicular adânc, cu multe ramificații. Se descurcă bine în pavaj. Zona de rezistență: 5a
