Arbore de talie medie, cu o formă de creștere frumoasă și regulată, o diferență marcantă față de B. utilis, care crește neregulat. Crește inițial în Himalaya și în unele părți din nord-vestul Indiei. Acest arbore cu ramificații joase se întâlnește și sub formă de mesteacăn cu mai multe tulpini, cu trunchiul de un alb frapant, cu fulgi. Sub fâșiile libere, trunchiul se colorează mai închis.
