Acer platanoides 'Columnare' este un vechi soi francez care are o coroană în formă de ou când este tânăr. Mai târziu în viață, ramurile cresc mai mult pe verticală și devine îngust columnar. Lățimea până la aproximativ 6 m. Coroana columnară face ca acest arbore să fie foarte potrivit pentru străzi și bulevarde înguste. Copacii altoiți pe tulpină rămân în general mai înguste decât exemplarele altoite pe rădăcină.
